White Hot for Winter
A Masterclass in Cozying Up Your All-White Bedroom
Embracing these winter months is not the easiest for many of us. I myself, adore a killer snowstorm; but that’s because I love the snuggles (and the fashion) of it all. Right now as I write, I’m in sunny LA at 76 degrees and I’ve missed the most epic of Northeastern blizzards back home in NY. But that doesn’t stop the snowy bedroom inspo from rising up in me.
Achieving winter white in the bedroom is all about being less “sterile” and more “luxury ski chalet.” It’s about embracing the snow without actually freezing your freaking toes off; channeling the beauty of a fresh snowfall into something delicious and cocooning. The trick is to pile it on!! Think cloud-like duvets, creamy knit throws, ivory linen sheets slightly rumpled on purpose. The magic is in the layering: crisp cotton or linen against slubby wool, a giant, weighted knit throw tossed casually at the foot of the bed, or a creamy quilt folded just so. You’re not decorating; you’re building a soft landing for hibernation season.
To keep it from veering into “hospital white” territory, think in tones and textures, not just color. The secret to keeping it really chic (and far from antiseptic) is mixing your whites like a pro. Pair sharper white with warm cream, buttery ecru, and the faintest whisp of beige so the room feels collected and carefully considered, not too “optic” or “clinical.” Matte walls play nicely with silky or woolen pillows; chunky textures flirt with smooth finishes. In white rooms I always think a hint of brass and weathered wood are gorgeous and warm, with a nubby rug underfoot. Suddenly your all-white fantasy feels really rich, more dimensional and anything but boring. It’s giving “snow day” energy and if you lean in, you might just find your best winter snuggle time ever.
