COLD COMFORT: THE SNUGGLE IS REAL
Winter Bedroom Style Upgrade
Winter is the perfect excuse to give your bedroom a style refresh, because if you’re going to hibernate, you might as well do it fabulously. Enter layering. Think of your bed the way you think of your winter wardrobe. No one survives January in a single thin layer. Start with crisp sheets (percale and linen are still big winners in colder months…and flannel, if that’s your jam), pile on a quilt, add a duvet, then finish with some totally unapologetic number of throw blankets casually draped like you definitely didn’t try too hard. I also like to mix textures: chunky knits, velvet, brushed cotton, deliciously soft wools. The goal is “less hotel minimal” and more “I may cancel all plans, watch Heated Rivalry for the fifth time and never leave my bed or the house.” Bonus points if your throw blanket fetish extends strategically to your sofa and a cushy lounge chair or two. Winter is about making your entire abode your decompression chamber.
When it comes to winter colors, this is your moment to lean into moody, rich hues that feel like a warm drink in design form. Deep forest green, inky navy, aubergine, chocolate brown, warm camel, and soft charcoal and black all bring instant coziness and help you move out your holiday leftovers. I like to balance darker tones with creamy ivories, oatmeals, or even warm blush or rusty rose and red, so the room feels snug, but not necessarily cave-like. Although, I’m not mad at a cave vibe either, especially in a NYC apartment; so, you do you. I personally enjoy layering color the same way I layer textiles. You can start neutral-ish, then add depth through throws, pillows, rugs, and even interesting lamps and shades. Winter bedroom styling should feel playful, a little indulgent, and very forgiving. If it looks inviting enough that your bed seems to say “five more minutes,” congratulations. You’ve nailed it!
